Since yesterday afternoon, the Internet has been abuzz with amused and enthusiastic talk of President Obama taking to Reddit and participating in the social media site’s popular “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) thread. At 4:30 p.m. ET Wednesday, users were shocked to see “I am Barack Obama, President of the United States -- AMA" in the comment thread, and after Reddit moderators verified that it was indeed the president on the other end, a stream of questions poured in for the president, temporarily crashing the system. During the 30 minute crowd-sourced Q&A session, the president answered questions on topics ranging from his favorite basketball player to Internet freedom and corrupt money in politics.
Before signing off, President Obama thanked everybody at Reddit for participating and explained, “this is an example of how technology and the internet can empower the sorts of conversations that strengthen our democracy over the long run.”
