Nancy Lanoue


Nancy Lanoue is a leader in the movement to combat violence against women and to promote their self-defense, which she has been instrumental in fostering over 30 years. Currently, she is the Co-Executive Director at Thousand Waves Martial Arts and Self-defense Center. She has also been a major leader in education, outreach, and service delivery for survivors of breast cancer.

Sarah Ludden


Sarah Ludden was initially drawn to martial arts as a form of creative movement. As this passion became a career, she began to work with various community organizations in California to help educate children and adults about martial arts. After moving to Chicago to live and work with her partner, Nancy Lanoue, they founded Thousand Waves Martial Arts & Self-Defense Center. She continues to teach and perform at national training camps, produced by the Pacific Association of Women Martial Artists and the National Women's Martial Arts Federation.
