Get ready to hack your way to a better America. June 1-2 has been designated as National Day of Civic Hacking, and with 93 events happening across the country, 37 available data sets and resources, 19 government partners, and 5,000 expected participants, it’s sure to be a revolutionary weekend.
The National Day of Civic Hacking is a nationwide event that unites citizens, software developers, and entrepreneurs in a spirit of creativity and invention in order to build solutions to community challenges. Relying on publicly-released data, code, and technology, hackers from cities across the country will participate in local events to invent new applications that benefit the common good. Open data coupled with the brain power of citizen experts and entrepreneurs are the ingredients for problem solving in every community.
Chicago will feature three events in coordination with the National Day of Civic Hacking.
