Living in an urban area such as Chicago, it’s hard not to see the pervasive role of technology in day to day life. And yet, as illustrated by the digital divide, many people in Chicago do not have access to computer, Internet, or other digital services. In an effort to bring technology to all residents, the City has launched Connect Chicago, described as “a loose network of more than 250 places in the city where Internet and computer access, digital skills training, and other online learning resources are available—for free.” With the help of libraries, colleges, community centers, workforce development centers, and public housing, Chicago residents have the opportunity to get connected no matter their location or skill level and participate in a city-wide culture of learning.
