Some big ticket items are on the table today in Springfield—one day before Illinois lawmakers head home for the summer break. Tonight could certainly shape up to be a grand finale considering that gay marriage, gun control, pension reform, gambling expansion, and fracking advances are up for grabs before the scheduled close at midnight tonight. These issues have proven controversial during the past five months, prompting heated debates, negotiation, and stalemates in the General Assembly. While the state hopes to see comprise and agreements on the more contentious issues (particularly pension reform and gun control), only the end of the day will tell if legislators are able to achieve appropriate resolutions.
