Paige McGinley studies performance â€" how our ways of making meaning in the world are fundamentally tied to gesture, movement, and embodiment. Author of a study on blues performance from tent shows to tourism, McGinley has now turned her eye to the role of performance â€" in courtrooms, nonviolent protests, and theaters â€" during the long battle for civil rights for African Americans. This crucial period in our nation’s history looks new, and newly powerful, through McGinley’s lens.
